[PREVIEW] Static-X + Sevendust @ Vogue Theatre
Tumblr media
It’s hard to imagine anywhere louder than the Vogue Theatre this Sunday – that’s because industrial metal legends Static-X and alt metal stalwarts Sevendust are taking over for the night and shaking it to the ground.
The nu metal double bill is making its way up the west coast, with this leg of the Machine Killer tour kicking off at Sick New World in Las Vegas. The tour is something of a reunion between Static-X, Sevendust and New York City metallers Dope, who toured together in 1999 and are still going strong a quarter of a century later.
The tour is a celebration of the old with the new, named after Static-X’s 2001 gold-certified Machine and Sevendust’s 14th studio album, 2023’s Truth Killer. If recent setlists are any indication, Vancouver is in for one hell of a show, with some blasts from the past interspersed with new tunes that are just as heavy as the classics.
Static-X’s set features a Wisconsin Death nostalgia trip – “Love Dump,” “Bled for Days,” “I’m With Stupid,” and of course “Push It” – contrasted by songs like “Hollow” and “Z0mbie” off of Project: Regeneration Vol. 1 & 2, respectively, plus some fan favourites like “Black and White,” “This Is Not” and “Cold” that will surely have the energy up in the Vogue.
Likewise, Sevendust is pulling out some of their old hits like “Black” and “Bitch” from their eponymous debut album, “Enemy” and “Face to Face” from 2004’s Seasons, and other killer selections from their 30-year back catalog.
Sunday’s show also marks Static-X’s first Vancouver concert in five years and Sevendust’s first in six, making this a long-awaited return for both bands. Sevendust features the same lineup they’ve had for much of the late ’90s and 2000s, while Static-X includes founding members Koichi Fukuda (lead guitar, keyboards), Tony Campos (bass, backing vocals) and Ken Jay (drums) with lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Xer0, who joined in 2018 following the untimely passing of original vocalist Wayne Static.
In addition to Static-X, Sevendust and Dope, Wisconsin metal trio Lines of Loyalty is joining them on tour, opening what is sure to be an outstanding show.
The return of these two nu metal powerhouses on one stage makes this a can’t-miss concert for anyone who likes it loud. Bring earplugs, this will be a good one.

Static-X – Project Regeneration Vol. 2 (2024)
Tumblr media
Tom Hanno of Tom's Reviews looks at Project Regeneration Vol. 2, the brand new album from industrial nu-metal legends Static-X, released on January 26th on Otsego Entertainment Group.
When Wayne Static died the music world thought that it would never again hear new music with his distinctive approach to vocals, riffs, and electronics. However, in 2018 we were shocked by the announcement that Tony Campos, Ken Jay, and Koichi Fukuda were working on what would become 2020’s Project Regeneration Vol I; an album that featured some of the final performances of the creator of Evil Disco. Now it’s 2024, and we’re getting the second, and final, volume, and it’s everything that fans of Static-X have come to expect from Wayne and the current iteration of his band, which features Xero in Wayne’s stead.

STATIC X Announce May 2023 Australian Tour with Special Guests SOil
From the moment Wisconsin Death Trip was released to an unsuspecting world, Static-X stood above. Their industrial alt-rock hybrid “Evil Disco” shook metal from its stagnant state and redefined what can be done with heavy music. Each subsequent album enhanced and cemented the band’s well earned reputation. In 2019, founding members Tony Campos, Koichi Fukuda and Ken Jay recruited an…
